The World Press Photo Contest is the most significant award for photojournalism in the world. Each year the winning photographs are assembled into an exhibition that travels to 100 locations in 45 countries and is seen by more than 4 million people. This year’s contest received 78,801 images, submitted by 4,738 photographers from 129 countries. Of the 43 nominated photographers from 25 countries, 10 are American. Jury members include Whitney C. Johnson, deputy director of photography at National Geographic, and Paul Moakley, editor at large for Special Projects at TIME. World Press is returning to NYC with its 2019 exhibition at 10 Corso Como.
